ENERCON installs E-175 EP5 prototype – market launch on schedule

First turbine of the new top-of-the-range wind turbine model is installed in Borchen-Etteln (North Rhine-Westphalia) / Commissioning measures already started

The prototype of ENERCON's new E-175 EP5 is ready. The installation team successfully completed the assembly of the first turbine of the new top model with a rated output of 6.0 MW and a rotor diameter of 175 metres yesterday (28 August) at the Borchen-Etteln site (North Rhine-Westphalia). ‘This marks another important milestone in the market launch of our new top model,’ says ENERCON CTO Jörg Scholle. ‘Many thanks to everyone involved for their great commitment!’

The E-175 EP5 is designed for medium to light wind sites. With a rotor diameter of 175 metres, it is one of the largest, most powerful and highest-yielding onshore turbines in Europe. The basic version uses a permanent magnet generator with a rated output of 6.0 MW.

ENERCON has announced a more powerful version with a new separable permanent magnet generator and a rated output of 7.0 MW for 2026. This will also offer significant increases in energy yield (AEP) compared to the basic version. Thanks to various hybrid and steel tower variants with hub heights of up to 175 metres and optional Yield Optimised Modes for site-specific operational optimisation, the E-175 EP5 is suitable for a wide range of locations.

‘These features make the E-175 EP5 a highly attractive product for our customers in highly competitive markets,’ says ENERCON CTO Jörg Scholle. ‘For 40 years, we have been making our contribution to the energy transition and providing our customers with high-yield, high-quality wind turbines. With the E-175 EP5, we are opening the next chapter to further driving onshore expansion and actively shaping the next phase of the energy transition.’

While the commissioning measures have already started at the prototype site, ENERCON CCO Uli Schulze Südhoff draws a positive interim conclusion: ‘We are very satisfied with how the market launch is going. The new product has been very well received by our customers. We have already sold the volume for 2025. We are also in concrete negotiations for numerous projects for the next 24 months – and there are also further enquiries.’

The Sales Director believes ENERCON is ideally positioned for the market upturn. ‘We listen to our customers and want to deliver a competitive product with ENERCON quality that is ideally suited to the requirements in many markets. A product like this, flanked by strong service, partnerships at eye level and extended customer solutions from planning to project financing, makes all the difference!’

The E-175 EP5 will also be the focus of ENERCON's trade fair appearance at Hamburg WindEnergy (24 to 27 September). Visit us at the international trade fair (Hall 4, Stand 244) to find out more about our product and service portfolio!
