ENERCON receives ‘turbines of the year’ award from Windpower Monthly

The renowned international trade magazine Windpower Monthly has recognized the E-175 EP5 E2 in the ‘Turbines of the year award 2023’. As the publisher announced today (January 25), ENERCON's new top model won the gold medal in the ‘Drivetrains’ category. The jury of experts recognized ‘ingenious solutions for overcoming challenges in the areas of materials and technology’.

The decisive criteria for the jury's vote were the E2's new separable permanent magnet generator, its reduced need for rare earths and the innovative and efficient pre-assembly, transportation and installation concept.

‘I am delighted to receive this award,’ says ENERCON CTO Jörg Scholle. ‘This is a great recognition for us and especially for our entire development team. The award shows that our products and technologies are attracting attention and a great deal of interest in the industry. On behalf of my colleagues on the Board, I would also like to thank everyone involved in the E-175 project for their great commitment!’

Ingenious product development as the basis for the company’s success

ENERCON achieved the technological breakthrough in the 1990s with the legendary E-40/500 kW. The gearless drive concept introduced for the first time with this wind turbine type still characterises ENERCON wind energy converters to this day. It also forms the basis for the new top-of-the-range model E-175 EP5 that ENERCON is currently rolling out in series production.
