ENERCON has not only installed the first E-160 EP5 with MST technology in South Korea, but also the first e-nacelle in the APAC region. The new technology brings further opportunities into the region and increases the appetite for bigger WEC types from ENERCON in the coming projects in South Korea.
With the previous memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with one of the well-known enterprise in South Korea, Kolon Global, last December, whom is the EPC of this project, ENERCON fulfilled their first project installation completion with three E-160 EP5 E3 at the Northeast area in August. Each single turbine can produce 18,000,000 kWh. The windfarm will be taken over by the owner TotalEnergies in the last quarter of the year.
As a flagship project: the Parang project started from 2022 July when contract signed, ENERCON provided state-of-the-art WEC type with large diameter, medium-size generator capacity as well as MST-technology; but we also provide competitive per megawatt pricing to the customer.
ENERCON sees this project as the pioneer of the new WEC type in Korea as we already perceive high interest from the market. ‘The interest of selling E-160 EP5 in Korea is really high, and we expect there are many projects that will use the model in the next two to three years, which means it will be the core model for the Korea market.’ Head of Sales Korea Jay Noh said.
The installation work in the typical Korean mountain area has been challenging, because the roads has been steep, long and narrow. ENERCON played as a reliable partner a major role in the success of the project by providing guidance during the installation and transportation in this challenging environment.
As ENERCON sees large potential in South Korea, especially for onshore wind development for the next years.
